About White Blood Cell Banking

White blood cell banking is the collection and storage of the white blood cells found
in your peripheral (or circulating) blood. White blood cell banking allows you to preserve your immune system in its healthy state so it can be used for future medical therapies if ever needed. White blood cell banking is simple – it’s similar to donating blood.

Once the blood is collected it is processed and stored for long-term cryopreservation in our Monterey, California facility.

Why Bank?

Banking your white blood cells provides you with a type of bio-insurance. Storing your white blood cells today puts you in a position to take advantage of tomorrow’s medical options. For those individuals who have a history of disease with a condition that could potentially use white blood cells as part of the treatment therapy, banking your white blood cells is a prudent choice.

Today, white blood cells are used in medicine to treat patients of relapsed blood disorders such as chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and myelodysplasia (MDS). And everyday, researchers are exploring new uses for white blood cells for tomorrow. Current research has shown that white blood cells can be used to fight malignant melanomas, prostate cancer and viral infections*. Although these potential treatment options are presently still in the research stage, the possibilities are extremely promising.

Privately banked white blood cells will provide you with a match for potential white blood cell infusion in the future and allow treatment to begin more rapidly. Also, because your white blood cells are genetically unique to you, if ever needed for infusion, there is little risk of rejection.

It is important to collect your white blood cells as early as possible, while they are healthy and before any unexpected malignancy contaminates your cells.

Hopefully, you will not need to access your white blood cells, but banking can give you peace of mind that this valuable resource is there if you need it.
