Michel Sadelain, MD, PhD
Located at the Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Institute,
Dr. Sadelain is Director of
the Gene Transfer and
Somatic Cell Engineering
Facility and a Stephen and
Barbara Friedman Chair. He
received his MD at The
University of Paris and a
PhD at The University of
Alberta, followed by a
residency at Centre
Hospitalier Universitaire
Saint-Antoine (Paris) and a
fellowship at Massachusetts
Institute of Technology.
With his clinical expertise
in Gene Transfer and Genetic
Therapies; Congenital and
Acquired Disorders of the
Hematopoietic and Immune
Systems; Immunotherapy, Dr.
Sadelain and his team are
actively conducting research
at the Gene Transfer and
Somatic Cell Engineering
Facility, and
investigating how to control
transgene expression in
vivo in hematopoietic
stem cells and how to
augment immune responses
against tumor cells.
Dr. Sadelain is also
conducting research at The
Gene Transfer and Somatic
Cell Engineering Facility.
The facility is responsible
for the production of
clinical grade retroviral
vectors and plasmid DNA for
gene therapy clinical
trials. The transduction
facility focuses on the
genetic engineering of
hematopoietic stem cells,
dendritic cells, and T
lymphocytes.
His team is also using gene transfer technology in order to
investigate the molecular
pathways that influence the
differentiation of naïve T
lymphocytes toward the Th1
or Th2 phenotype. This may
play a crucial role in the
outcome of immune responses
against foreign or self
antigens, including those
expressed in tumor cells.
Dr. Salelain’s work has been
published in numerous
publications and may be
viewed at Pub Med
